The AISHA Project
The AISHA Project means
The AIDS Intervention & Sexual Health Alliance Project
Modeled after The Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention’s SISTA intervention, the AISHA Project (the AIDS Intervention and Sexual Health Alliance Project) is an innovate program developed for African American women in our service area.
On a local, national and international level, women of African descent represent the group that is most negatively impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. HIV infection is 100% preventable and the AISHA Project is designed to help women understand more about HIV/AIDS, their personal risk factors, and ways they can protect themselves from the disease.
Since its inception in spring 2004, over 55 women have successfully completed the AISHA Project. Future AISHA Project series’ are expected to begin in summer 2007.
- The AISHA Project has to have a minimum number of 8 participants committed to complete all the workshops to start.
- AISHA is modeled after a National HIV Prevention Intervention program from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- AISHA Project Facilitators are trained professionals experienced in facilitating the sessions.
- AISHA is a project that is based on confidential small group workshop for and by women who may be at high risk for HIV infection.
- AISHA empowers women to avoid HIV infection, to actively participate in healthy relationships and understand the overall importance of sexual health.
- AISHA consists of 7 two-hour group sessions that include fun activities such as role play exercises.
- AISHA group sessions are strictly confidential and only for women who are participating in the Project.
- AISHA Project participants can be linked to HIV testing and counseling and other care and support services they may need.
- AISHA offers an incentive for women who fully complete the project
- HAPHEM Project is FREE!!
